Hot off the back of their Spotify hit Renault Sport that has garnered close to 100,000 plays, as well as recently hyped Southpoint cut Marble Arch (featured in The New UK Garage playlist), Cortese are back with a split release on Plaza. Joining them is budding newcomer Baloo, whose recent collaboration with Movement, Peach Gardens, featured on the latter’s Southpoint Quiet Storm EP and was included in The Loft Spotify editorial playlist. Remixes from Movement’s other alias Agora, as well as established figure Adam are on the flip.

Cuadrada kicks things off, a refined and hypnotic number that is bound to cause some serious introspection on the dance-floor. Glittering synths pair with classic Cortese vocal cuts; if Bonobo were to make UK Garage this would be it. Up next is Feelin’ Sentimental, starting off with a tight sample based 2-step groove, alongside swirling saxophones that complement the overdriven bass and vocal refrains. As it progresses Baloo ends up channelling a classic 90s speed garage vibe with rumbling low-end to finish off with. Lying somewhere in-between UKG and Breaks, layers of synths, vocals and guitar work are drenched in an aqueous atmosphere in Koopa Cape, also by Baloo. The perfect song for a drive down the French Riviera, or the Koopa Cape Mario Kart Wii circuit.

On the flip, Agora delivers a Cloud Mix of Cuadrada, taking Cortese’s UK Garage production and flipping it into an ambient Jungle cut. The producer shows his deep love of interwoven polyrhythmic melodic textures, tastefully reinterpreting the original. Adam rounds things off with a rumbling yet melodic Breaks and Electro influenced Cuadrada remix, retaining the entrancing atmosphere, whilst also bringing in more space and a complementary mellowness.
